Chuck Morlock,
Hamburg GOP Chairman's preamble:
The Hamburg Republican Committee is dedicated to promoting the principles of limited government, individual freedom, free enterprise, and equal opportunity for all people. We believe that the proper role of government is to provide only those critical functions that cannot be performed by individuals or private organizations and that the government which maintains order, administers justice, and removes obstacles to the free exchange of goods, at the least expense and greatest efficiency to its citizens, is preferable to all others. The Hamburg Republican Committee believes that strong families and respect for life are the cornerstones of a stable community and we support policies that affirm traditional family values and defend the most vulnerable in our society. To these ends, our committee will work to recruit and support candidates who champion our principles and share our beliefs.
Governing Principles
TAXES
Limited taxation is a core Republican principle. We believe that a heavy tax burden is an imposition on a person’s economic, political, and even personal freedom. Taxes should be used to fund only necessary functions of government in an efficient manner.
PRIVATE ENTERPRISE
We strongly support a viable business community. To do this the Hamburg Republican Committee endorses reducing the tax & fee burdens for all citizens and all businesses, creating true and equal access and incentives. We support reducing regulation on all businesses. We also promote an environment which creates an abundance of quality employment opportunities that will encourage our children to stay in Western New York. The goal of the Hamburg Republican Committee is to create a business-friendly environment which promotes open and fair competition for everyone.
2ND AMENDMENT
The right of the people to bear arms is a guiding principle of the Hamburg Republican Committee. We affirm that citizens have the right to bear arms, in order to ensure and provide for defense of self, family, home and homeland. We further affirm that sportsmen and hunters are entitled to pursue their interests while at the same time serving to support wildlife conservation. Legislative attempts to unduly restrict, limit, or prohibit a citizen’s Constitutional right to bear arms are opposed by the Hamburg Republican Committee.
EDUCATION
Education is an integral cornerstone to the ultimate success of our children. We believe that a successful educational system requires a collaborative effort of school administrators, the teaching community, parents and students as well as the private sector. Parents should have the opportunity of choice in their children’s education. We believe that school systems should be given more local control to educate students while remaining fiscally responsible and accountable to strict state & federal testing guidelines.
HOMELAND SECURITY
We strongly support our armed forces, past and present, and our military installations, especially our local installations. We support enhanced security for citizens, visitors and commerce while facilitating legitimate travel and trade across the northern border. We believe that funding for homeland security must be directed toward threats and risks, with emphasis on border communities. The Hamburg Republican Committee believes that local first-responders, including volunteers, need proper equipment, training, funding and coordination among all levels of government in order to maximize protection of our homeland.
LIMITED GOVERNMENT
The Hamburg Republican Committee believes that government should reduce mandates and regulations. We encourage every American’s entrepreneurial and individual spirit so that all may thrive and prosper. We also believe that government should not be an expanding bureaucracy that consumes public resources. The Hamburg Republican Committee believes that government is not the driving economic force in any municipality and should be limited to providing essential public services
.
RIGHTSIZING GOVERNMENT
We as the Hamburg Republican Committee believe that collaboration and sharing of limited resources are essential to our county’s survival and prosperity, and a new regional vision. The Hamburg Republican Committee will create an efficient municipal environment for business and job growth throughout the region. We will take significant actions to right size government and we will inform the community about the benefits of cooperation and collaboration across municipal boundaries. These core principles will foster prosperity for every Erie County resident.
CULTURE OF LIFE
While acknowledging other viewpoints, the Hamburg Republican Committee respects the sanctity of life, the traditional institution of marriage, the promotion of strong families, and the support of faith-based initiatives. These guiding principles are the cornerstone of a strong society.
